Aikido Student Handbook, The

Book Summary:

This handbook was written by Greg O’Connor, longtime shidoin and founder of Aikido Schools of New Jersey. The second image is of the back cover of the paperback. He has subtitled his book “A Guide to the Philosophy, Spirit, Etiquette, and Training Methods of Aikido.” This short book introduces the new Aikido student to what he (she) may expect on the mat and what may be expected of him. There is a large amount of detailed and practical information on Aikido history, terminology, promotions, practice methods, and especially etiquette. If dojo ambiance were categorized as either Militaristic, Businesslike, or Communitarian, O’Connor’s recommendation would be the latter, which probably places him within the majority of Aikido dojos
